Debian (see Debian Distribution) seems to be the best and most stable one on the Asus devices. Nevertheless, you can try some other distributions.
You will find appropriate root images on the internet for free download.
(any links will be great!)
- Gentoo mipsel glibc
- Gentoo mipsel uclibc
- Meshcube mtx (old firmware)
- Meshcube nylon (new firmware based on openembedded)
- Redhat mipsel 7.x
- uclibc-toolchain
- wl500g-1.7.5.9-5 (for backward compatibility)
will these works?
- m0n0wall? pfSense?
- is it possible to install rdesktop/vnc/etc and make this act as wireless thin client?
Create a directory for each distribution and switch to it by using chroot.
This has been tested on a WLHDD due to the large space requirements. It should also work on other devices as long as enough storage space is available over the USB port...
Have fun.
